Craptastic!

This past week was absolutely gorgeous. I whipped out my shorts, tanks and flip flops and was really getting used to all the sun and summer-esque heat. Now, lately, for some stupid reason, good ol' Mother Nature decided we need some rain...and lots of it. Just checked the forecast and looks like there is no end in sight either. Awesome. Can pretty much chalk this weekend up as craptastic!

Tonight I'm going to the Nationals baseball game with some of my girlfriends...if the rain allows. The Nats suck hardcore and I honestly couldn't name a single player on their team if my life depended on it, but that's all really just trivial. Nobody cares about the actual game anyways... as long as I can see the players asses in those tight baseball pants, everything else is irrelevant.

Should be a fun time!

Get Your Bloomin' Arse Out of My Way!!

Saturday morning was the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in D.C., and for God knows what reason I thought that would be a great time to head down to the mall and check out the beautiful scenery.

Unfortunately, 2 million other people (literally) had the same idea. Ughh...Have I ever mentioned how much I hate tourists?

I pretty much live a stones throw away from the district and thus could've went to check out the cherry blossoms at ANY other time over the past couple weeks, but of course, my bestie and I so conveniently chose to go the same day as every other human being on the planet.

Awesome.

The Metro was a total cluster f***, I couldn't walk without running into someone, someone's child, someone's pet, or someone's stroller, we had to eat lunch on the window sill in the corner of the cafe in the Smithsonian because there were absolutely no seats to be had, and thanks to the hurricane-like winds I could barely even open my eyes long enough to see anything.

...but other than that...those darn cherry blossoms were pretty beautiful, I must admit.

Can you tell how much we loved the wind? That pic pretty much sums it up.

Welcome to Town!

I was going to write a post about how super excited I am for my murder mystery party tonight and what a fabulously perfect Marilyn Monroe-esque white dress I snagged yesterday at the mall, but I figured pictures and post party detail dishing would be much more interesting.

So instead I turn to some other juicy news...Brad and Angelina are in town!

Yeah I've never been a big fan of Brangelina (definitely more of a Team Aniston type of chick), but the fact that the hot couple and their two daughters, Shiloh and Zahara, are within a couple miles of me right now as I type...is kinda cool.

No, I'm not going to run down to L'Enfant Plaza, Navy Memorial or Pennsylvania Ave where the Washington Post has reported Angie will be on site filming a CIA spy thriller, "Salt", for the next few days, but the fact is...I could. Who wouldn't be a little bit excited about that?

And while Angie is filming her new flick, set to come out in 2010, Brad is chatting it up with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi about the reconstruction efforts in New Orleans.

And of course he's spending a little down time with his two favorite mini gals. How cute are they?? Shiloh is honestly one of the most beautiful little girls I've ever seen (go figure). Check out that little outfit - OMG!!

And what do you think about Angie's blond hair? I think I like her dark.

Girl's Night

A few days ago one of my amazingly fabulous girlfriends turned the big 2-4. Yeah I'm aware that 24 is not all that big, but who really cares? Any reason for us to get dressed up and go out, my girls and I are always down. So to celebrate her birthday we had a private booth reserved at McCormick and Schmick's on K Street in DC. And although my wallet protested, not attending would have went against everything I stand for, so I of course replied to the facebook e-vite to let everyone know "I wouldn't miss it!"

I took the Metro down by myself (boo!) and met everyone there around 7. Jenn came straight from work and Lex from seeing her man in NYC. So needless to say they had their luggage, backpacks, laptop bags, all in tow. Basically we looked like nomads....that or we were planning on moving in. Luckily the private, curtain concealed area they reserved for us to sit, hid it all rather well. So it really wasn't quite as embarrassing as it could have been.

Our waiter was absolutely hilarious. He was an actor in training (or at least he thought he was) and he kept us laughing the entire night. My girls ordered fried calamari, oysters on the half shell, Maryland lump crab cakes, shrimp alfredo ...and then of course there's me, being my normal picky self, I ordered a chicken ceasar salad. Yeah I know I'm so lame, but what can I say, a chicken ceasar salad is always a safe bet. Wouldn't wanna get too risky, you know :)

We talked about old friends, a dying fox, trips to Atlantic City, teaching English abroad, Disneyland, having sex in inappropriate places, and other random topics that are slipping my mind at the moment, for good reason.

After sharing every dessert known to man...including creme brulee, berry medley with grand marnier sauce, cheesecake, and a chocolate truffle marquise (listed out just to make your mouth water a little...yes, your welcome) talk then turned to going out afterwards. Being that it was already pushing 10 o'clock (eww not 10 o'clock! I know, just call me grandma) and I had to wake up early for work the next day I thought better of it and decided to just go home instead.

I got back, changed into my comfy clothes, washed my face, and hopped into bed. As low key as it was I had a great time and as I was laying quietly in my bed I couldn't help but think how thankful I am to have my friends....without them this whole being single thing...would totally suck sooo much more.

Quote of the day: "Lean on me, when you're not strong, and I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on. For it won't be long, 'til I'm going to need somebody to lean on."

Off to See the Wizards

A couple of nights ago me and my girls went down to the Verizon Center to watch the Wizards play the Nets. Being the high rollers we are in this city, we of course had the luxury of enjoying the game from one of the lower level suites...Yeah, you know we've got it like that ;)

But unfortunately, no matter how great our seats were, nothing short of blinders could've made that team look good. Oh its true. For those of you who don't know, the Wizards are the worst team in the NBA and after watching that game I can confirm that there is a good reason why...They are awful! I honestly don't even know how they've won a single game this season. It's really bad. While watching, I couldn't help but debate in my head whether my sister's high school girls team would have stood a chance against them.

Luckily though I don't really care in the least for either team (or the NBA at all, for that matter...I'm a college b-ball type of girl), so I was just as happy as could be people-watching the whole time and checking out the eye candy. The cheerleaders, the fans, the players, I was enjoying examining them all.

Although I've officially sworn off athletes for life, after my last three failed relationships were all with one, my girls and I still had a great time debating who the hottest player was. Vince Carter definitely has some appeal, but his headbands and leg wraps were a major turnoff. Antawn Jamison's decent, but I couldn't get past his tiny chicken legs, Devon Harrison has way too many tattoos...and the list went on and on.

But by the end of the night I finally came to my conclusion....JaVale McGee, if you are reading this, you would stand a chance with me. Yeah he's not perfect, there is something weird about his face and he is a little too tall, but I think I could make do.

Check out the rest of our pics from the night.

Quote of the day: "It's the times we're so crazy, that people think we're high. It's the times we laugh so hard, we can't help but cry. It's all the inside jokes and "remember whens"...Those are all the reasons that we're best friends! "

Welcome to D.C. Mr. President

The Presidential Inauguration has come and gone, and although we are all probably a little tired of hearing about it by now (or in my case, a lot tired of seeing people wearing their cheesy Obama gear) it just doesn't seem right for me not to mention it. So from me to you, Mr. Obama...Welcome to Washington D.C. Hope you enjoy your stay here!

But all kidding aside, no matter what your political stance is, yesterday, January 20th, 2009 was a historical day. Just like people now ask you where you were on September 11th, one day people will be asking you where you were when the first African American was sworn into office.

You want to know where I was?...Honestly I was sitting on my couch, watching it on TV. While millions of Americans travelled far and wide to get here, paid thousands of dollars a night to stay here, and stood hours upon hours in the freezing cold just to catch a glimpse, this Washingtonian (who could just about throw a stone from my balcony and hit the White House) will pathetically admit that I didn't even go :)

I did however watch it all. I watched the swearing in, the speeches, the singing, the reading of poems, the playing of music... yep I watched it all. And I'll even admit it, I definitely got a little choked up during Rick Warren's prayer, maybe even shed a tear or two depending on who you ask. The truth is that as the camera zoomed in on Barack Obama's face and out onto the mall where millions upon millions of Americans stood with their heads bowed and eyes closed, it made me realize what an amazing country we live in, how far we have truly come, and how very lucky I am to live in the United States of America.

Quote of the day: "Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America — they will be met." ~ Barack Obama
